Rainbow Trout Fillet

Rainbow Trout is a very popular table fish. The oily flesh has a rich earthy flavour. The flesh ranges from light to dark pink depending on the amount of cartenoid food content in the fish feed. They are easy to prepare either baked or grilled.
Native to North America the colourful Rainbow Trout is one of the easiest fish to farm. Efforts to establish wild populations of Rainbow Trout in Britain have not been successful because the species prefers warmer water temperatures. Almost all Rainbow Trout’s sold in the UK are from farmed origin.
Rainbow Trout is easily recognized by the silver skin and the iridescent pink stripe along the lateral line. The back is shaded olive green with black spots and the belly is white. They are greedy feeders and easy to catch even for a novice angler.
